Attorney W. Trent Steele, a bankruptcy lawyer with the Law offices of W. Trent Steele was asked to speak before a packed audience of realtors, attorneys, bankers and others recently on the subject of short sales, bankruptcy and foreclosures. The Jupiter Tequesta Hobe Sound Board of Realtors, comprised of over 1,500 members, asked Mr. Steele to speak on the subject on the minds of many of the members of the association these days.

“I don’t think many people understand the complexity of the problems presented by foreclosed homes and properties owned by securitized trusts and other investment entities,” said Steele, known for foreclosure representation and as a personal injury lawyer. “The problems are only now beginning to surface before the courts and the situation is going to get much worse.”

Millions of mortgages in America were bundled and sold on the secondary market to investors during the frenzied real estate boom a few years ago. In the process, Steele said, the banks and investors were not careful about documenting the series of sales and transfers of the mortgages, thus leading to problems when the investors try foreclosure and cannot prove they actually own the mortgages.
